How do you define future? The future is unknown. The future has yet to come. The word future has several meanings but the one that stuck with me was: an expectation of advancement or progressive development. I thought about that and that definition really stands out with me because as a family we should always be in a stage of advancement and progressive development. But before we start advancement, we must make sure that our foundation is firm. Yes, we should always seek to develop and build our relationships. But have we given the next generation of the family a firm foot to step out into the world?

We must make sure that the next generation is equipped with all the necessary tools and skills to continue the legacy. It is imperative that we provide the seeds of basics to each generation and produce the type of family fruit that we want to see.

We must continue to share stories and history. Celebrate achievements and milestones. All of this works to the building of the foundation in appreciation of our family history. Once they have been equipped, then as a family, we must be forward thinking. Embrace new and innovative ideas and traditions, allowing the younger generations to be themselves but reminding them of value of the past. While we don’t know what the future may hold, we do know that if we always look forward as a family, we will overcome everything together.this topic.
